Identification guide

SAE flare and NPT grill fittings are not interchangeable

A flare fitting seals at a shaped metal seat. NPT is a tapered pipe thread. Visible threads do not tell you which sealing method or nominal size you have.

This page coversIdentification comparison only. The appliance documentation must name the actual thread and sealing method.

Compare the photographs and illustrations

A picture can help identify the connector family. It cannot measure a thread, establish pressure, or prove that a part belongs on your appliance. Manufacturer references are linked below each example.

3/8 in female flare

Swivel hex nut with an internal flare seat; it seals at the flare, not on pipe threads.

Do not add thread-seal tape to a flare seat. Confirm the exact size and mating male flare.

Male and female describe the sealing geometry, not simply whether threads are visible.

NPT pipe thread

Tapered pipe thread that tightens progressively; nominal size cannot be confirmed from a picture.

Flare and NPT connections are not interchangeable. Gas-rated sealing and installation requirements differ.

Confirm every one of these

  • The manual names SAE flare or NPT and gives the exact nominal size.
  • Male and female refer to the sealing geometry, not simply whether threads are visible.
  • The assembly is approved for the fuel, pressure, flow, and installation.
This page helps identify the fitting. It does not recommend a product.

Use it to understand the fitting names, then return to the exact brand and model record. A visual comparison alone is not enough to show a marketplace link.

Manufacturer-specified products

These are manufacturer products for stated models or uses. They are not universal hoses. Check the source and your exact appliance before buying.

Compatibility not verified.

We do not have a single verified product for this category. Product pages often leave out pressure, mating profile, capacity, certification, or model coverage. Use the guided comparison only after confirming those details in current documentation.
